Thelonious Monk and his quartet spent a good chunk of 1961 touring Europe including this date, recorded at Olympia in Paris on April 18th of that year. Featuring his long-time quartet saxophonist Charlie Rouse, whose vibrant tone and rhythmic sense are on display here, the group churns through a small handful of Monk-classics.
