Tuning: Standard
Here are the guitar parts to the closing track off the band's Astronaut album. The song
a ton of keyboards and effects, but Andy Taylor's guitar in the song is pretty basic,
only based around a few riffs and an acoustic part during the chorus. Either way, it's
pretty effective, and the song is probably the band's best closer on an album since The Chauffeur
in 1982. Like The Chauffeur, this song is also very moody lyrically and musically.
Main Riff:
This is played during the verses and the chorus.
e|--------------------0-----------------------------------------------------|
B|---10---8---6---8-------6---5---3-----------------------------------------|
G|--------------------------------------------------------------------------|
D|--------------------------------------------------------------------------|
A|--------------------------------------------------------------------------|
E|--------------------------------------------------------------------------|
Below is practically the same riff, except for the last few notes. This is only played just
before the two verses once, then the guitar part goes back to the riff above.
e|--------------------0------------------------------------------------------|
B|---10---8---6---8-------6p5---2---3----------------------------------------|
G|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
D|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
A|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
Chorus:
The main riff repeats during the chorus. But I can also make out an acoustic guitar playing
a Dm-C chord arrangement throughout.
Dm: x57765
C: x35553
Bridge Riff:
This is played after the second and third choruses in the song.
e|-------------------------------------------------------------------------|
B|--2---3---5---6-----2---3---5---6-----2---3---5---6-----8---6---5---6----|
G|-------------------------------------------------------------------------|
D|-------------------------------------------------------------------------|
A|-------------------------------------------------------------------------|
E|-------------------------------------------------------------------------|
You can hear traces of the main riff on and off during the last minute and a half the song
also. Much of the ending is filled with synths all over, but the guitar coming in and out is
a nice effect to go along with that.
*Main riff*
Home, it's not brick or stone
Or comfort in the firelight
Not in that sense anyway
*Main riff*
Dreams, if only I had known
But these things always seem
So much clearer at a distance
Dm C
I'm walking out of this town
Dm C
I'm never going back there, I'm never going back there
Dm C
I'd burn the place to the ground
Dm C
I'm never going back there, I'm never going back there again
*Main riff*
Words only could break that ring
You know the words still sting
So much ahrder than the blows ever did
*Main riff*
Heart, though it's hot and violent
My head is cool and quiet
As the ashes that fall from the sky
Dm C
I'm walking out of this town
Dm C
I'm never going back there, I'm never going back there
Dm C
I'd burn the place to the ground
Dm C
I'm never going back there, I'm never going back there again
*Bridge Riff*
(The Dm - C arrangement repeats 4 times here also)
*Main riff*
Now, I know this shattered feeling
Trampled but still breathing
I'm just waiting for a good day
Dm C
I'm walking out of this town
Dm C
I'm never going back there, I'm never going back there
Dm C
I'd burn the place to the ground
Dm C
I'm never going back there, I'm never going back there again
Dm C
Never going back there, I'm never going back there again
*Main riff*
