Hopeful Spring And Weeping Summer
Back in nineteen sixty eight
People full of love and faith
Searched the light that would shine so bright
Saw the future that would make ‘em sigh
All these days were filled with glory
Dancing kids who wrote the story
Drew a picture of hope and pride
In the streets they led their fight
Goodbye to all our illusions
So long to all our plans
We wanted to change the constitution
We only served our “brothers” instead
Goodbye to all our solutions
Socialism with a human face
We wanted to heal the institution
We only shed a tear instead
Back in nineteen sixty eight
One black cloud it changed the fate
Something happened something wrong
The eastern wind was blowing cold
As the world was slowly dawning
And the night turned to sweet morning
In the distance unexpected “friend”
Rolling over through this mountain land
Goodbye to all our illusions
So long to all our plans
We wanted to change the constitution
We only served our “brothers” instead
Goodbye to all our solutions
Socialism with a human face
We wanted to heal the institution
We only shed a tear instead
Guess there is something we cannot see
Guess there is something we can’t understand
Why do we always have to be
Deceived by traitors with a bloody
Goodbye to all our illusions
So long to all our plans
We wanted to change the constitution
We only served our “brothers” instead
Goodbye to all our solutions
Socialism with a human face
We wanted to heal the institution
We only shed a tear instead
This song is dedicated to all our relatives, friends and lovers who lost their illusions and dreams in the year of 1968 in Czechoslovakia.
